Lawrence Tompkins is a Captain in the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) assigned to Ladder Company 120 in Brownsville, Brooklyn. An FDNY member for seventeen years, Tompkins was an original member of Squad 252, a Special Operations Command (SOC) unit in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and a member of Ladder Company 7, a high rise firefighting unit in midtown Manhattan. In 2006, he was awarded the Albert Johnson medal for bravery, and since the 9/11 attacks, he has focused on training young firefighters.
